Minister for Information and Communications, Sherdhan Rai, has clarified that the government would not consider for talks with the disgruntled Madhesh-centric political parties if they put forward rewriting of the new constitution as the ultimate bottom-line. In an interaction organized by the Reporters Club here on Sunday, Minister Rai said that the Madesh-centric political parties were dillydallying to sit for talks and resolve the differences although the government had repeatedly sent them official letters for the same. Rai though admitted that they were positive for the talks lately. In a different context, Rai said that the government was effortful to implement the constitution and had forwarded necessary programme to implement action-plan for the same. The meeting of the Council of Ministers on June 16 passed the Constitution Implementation Action Plan to be concluded within the second week of January, 2017. The action plan includes important state affairs as forming the Language Commission, holding the local bodies’ election, bringing Act related to judicial administration and consulting federal commission for collection suggestions on province demarcation within August 16 among others. “Preparations are underway to formulate new act and laws for implementation of new constitution,” Minister Rai shared. More than 100 new acts and laws are to be made while around 300 existing acts and laws should be amended for the same. Minister Rai further underscored the need to usher the country on the path to economic, social and cultural development, for which, he urged the parties in and out of the government to be untied for the same cause. He said that the budget has already been released to compensate the families of those killed during the Madhesh-agitation and for the treatment of the injured ones. Also speaking at the programme, Nepal Sabhawana Party Chairperson Anil Jha asserted that the Madhesh-centric political parties were not against the talks but were in favor of the cause of concrete result through talks. “We will only sit for talks with the government if it pledges to meet at least three demands in total,” he said.
